How is it calculated?

The point you click is matched to the nearest cell of our conditions grid. Wind speed is the average wind 10 metres above the surface; the gust is the strongest burst within the same hour. If there is no cell at the spot you chose, the nearest measurement within 22 km is used and the distance is shown in the result.

The Beaufort number is calculated from the average wind speed (World Meteorological Organization table). 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h = 1.94 kn.
